Penang has it all!

Growing up in Penang, Malaysia sometimes make you take things for granted. However, after living in foreign country for more than a year now, I started to think of Penang more often.

I love this video about Penang.

Enjoy!

Things that I missed about Malaysia

Having been in Hershey, PA for the past 8 months, I started to miss Malaysia a lot, well, maybe things in and about Malaysia. Here are some of the stuff...

1. Thunderstorms, it comes nearly every evening,
2. Nasi Kandar,
3. Single season weather, that I don't need to have so many sets of clothes and changes according to the seasons,
4. Gas stove, things seems to heat up faster and food to have 'extra flavor',
5. Wok, stir fried vegetables or even deep frying fish,
6. Mamak - nasi lemak,  teh tarik and roti canai, nearly a staple food for most Malaysian,
7.  Hawker stalls, the variety of foods and the noises and all in between,
8.Warm and humid weather; I can't believe I say this, but yes, after the winter and shoveling snow,
9. Friends, though new good friends were found and friendship built, friends at home still dearly missed,
10. Families, the last two seems to be understatement!

Reminiscences

Study hard I was told;

If not, forever you will work using hoe;

Pen you should choose, air-cond will follow;

If not, you will sweat and burn your toes!

Be an engineer, accountant, lawyer or doctor;

Whatever it is as long as not rubbish collector;

Push, ran, jump, hike till you reach the marker,

Crazy as you think, money is always the factor!

Graduate with a degree but felt melancholy;

Wanted to be a doctor, ended being a biologist;

Push hard, jump high, whatever it is,

Study more but ended with 'Dolly the Sheep'.

PhD = Permanent Head Damage, people says;

Loose you hair the price you pay;

I am happy, I am gay;

Pen I hope in future days!

Change my title, Dr they called me;

I love travelling, but always economy;

'Any doctor in the plane? Please come quickly';

I cannot raise my hand but just sit quietly!

Chinese New Year...

Jammed all the way no matter where and what time you travel

Noise pollution (adult talking loudly and children shouting with laughter here and there)

Hot Hot Hot

Cook, Clean and Cook again

Eat Eat and Eat more!

Everything must be RED!

Clustering of people online on different notebooks in different rooms

Children playing pc games.

Firecrackers (animated) and ANG POW! :(

Some of my favorite pics

I love photography since young but I don't really have the skills for it. I owned my first camera when I am about 10 years old. Its was film Yashica camera. I remembered when I first went to a trip to China with that camera, I took 12 rolls of pictures. That's lot of picture and money involved back then, from the film to developing it.

Then, I have a new Nikon film camera with zoom lense when I enters university. I used it for a while before I bought my first digital Canon A80 camera. I still like that camera but the zoom lense give me some problem after 4 years of using it. The camera is very user friendly and it's very good for me especially, I needed fast respond. The picture above was taken with that camera.
After that I bought the Canon S5IS semi-pro camera. I must say that I am a heavy user. I took pictures everywhere, everyday and simply on anything. after about a year using Canon S5 IS, I simply love it. It gives me the handling feel of a pro DSLR camera but its so easy to use like the normal compact digital camera.
I purchased the camera for my wedding and used it when we went to Phuket for honeymoon too. I love the pictures that were taken using the camera.
After trying so many brand of camera, I still love Canon. It gives a better feel and grip every time I hold the camera. Futhermore, Canon camera I find it to be more 'responsive'. It works fast and simply gives a better results.
I am not a good camera man, but I think with this Canon camera that I have, it has help me to take better pictures. Sometimes, gadget is important too. The camera that we have will give a good result. Nevertheless, skills are very important. But a good camera, will gives you a good picture. I had been using Canon cameras for about 5 years. At the same time, I do have other compact cameras which was either given to me or win, but I still loves what I have.
Anyway, this post is never intend to be an advertorial for Canon, but simply just to share some pictures that I have taken.

Look Out Point, Ampang

Last Saturday night, my wife and I were invited for a dinner. Well, we don't really know where we are going other than, the restaurant have a good view. We went in a car, and our pastor brought us to Look Out Point, over in Ampang. He has invited us for dinner to celebrate our birthday. It was so sweet and nice of him to remember us. It was raining heavily that night, and the drive there was all covered with mist.
Along the way, we chatted and found out that this place overlook the KL town and its actually located on the old road towards Ampang from Cheras. Anyway, the drive there was pleasant but took us about 30 minutes. We called to make booking and telling the owner we are making out way there. I think he must be busy as our call went unanswered but he is so nice to call us back and reserved a seat for us.
The place was located up a slope and once we reach the junction to turn into the restaurant, the jam started. We parked at the road side and walk uphill. It wasn't a long walk but a very steep hill to climb indeed. Once on top, I saw the restaurant was packed. I understood from Ps Bernard saying this place is usually packed on weekend and they normally don't do reservation at night.
More suprises awaits us as I step in. This place have one of the most amazing view over KL city!We ordered our food and its really good. I havs steak with cheese and ham and my wife took grilled chicken prepared in the same way. Ps Bernard order steak too. It is so nice that I forget to take any picture of it. The price too is reasonable!
The weather that night is so chilling. The wind blowing makes us so hungry and cold. This is a great place to go for western food and also just to chill out.
After dinner, we took a walk on the hilltop and also to a viewing platform to take some picture. I can't stay too long there as it's very cold with the wind blowing and raining too. anyway, we really enjoy our time there.
Anyway, if you plan to go there, try to go there during weekdays. They are open from 11am till 1am.
I know, this will not be my last time there.

The day the Conquerors goes Kayaking...

This has been in the heart of the church leaders to organise activities for the members and that now is the holiday seasons for the campus or some just started, we thought why not! We were at the church early on Sunday, but not for service but for the outing! We have attended the saturday evening service. 44 of us, in a bus and two cars, we headed for Putrajaya Lake Recreational Center. When we reach, the place is not yet open.
We have ice-breakers just to know each other and as what others said - to break the ice la.
We have a good time laughing and running around and meeting with new people and then, we have a break. Some just took the opprotunity to continue to make more friends while most took a walk to watch some migatory birds like the pelican and swans. Before we know, we are putting on our life vest and this is the time for more pictures taking. The excitement is in the air so much so, all are getting ready and don't mind just to jump into water.

We continue with our last ice breakers and looking for the partner for the kayaking and canoeing! Everyone is so excited and simply just shout so that we can have out partner and get straight into the water. Many of them did well, going around, some struggle making round and round just near the water. but before long, they are out to the middle of the lake canoeing! Though, some have their fair bit of anxiety and capzie
Canoe is the easier to capsize and topple over. But for most of us, we just enjoy the time out in the open to enjoy the freedom and cruising on the lake. And we also have some who don't want to get wet, yet, another will just jump into water or to make the boat turn over purposely! I think this is where all the FUN is! To just do something impulsively at the same time, enjoy it!
Some of us just sit around the lake. This is a very nice place. A lake that is part of the wetland, a green lung nestle withing Putrajaya, yet very serene!
After the rowing session, we have time to chat and make some new freinds. Though we are from the same church, the group is too big for us to know someone closer. So, this outing is an opprtunity for everyone to mingle and get to know each other better. Sadly, we are in a multi racial communtiy who sometimes just don't know who is our neighbour or knowing theur culture. Here, at least we have the opportunity to learn from each other, their country and culture too.

At the end, we just find another friend and getting know a friend better. This will give us a new found family that we know, we are always there!
Well, here is how we show it! Don't play play with this group, if not, we are coming after you with out paddles and oars!
