12th PRU - where went wrong?

After the dust has settled, people are thinking about their decision and the Barisan Nasional's big guns will be reflecting and doing their post mortem on the 12th general election. BN lost its grip on the parliamentary seat, losing the 2/3 majority YAB Datuk Seri Ahmad Badawai promised, Tan Sri Koh Tsu Khoon lost in his parliamentary seat together with his top leadership from Gerakan and MIC Samy Valu lost in his own fort, Sungai Siput.

New government will be formed in the state of Kedah, Penang, Perak and Selangor. Kelantan remains in the grip of PAS (Islamic Party) with improvement in the seat allocation in state assembly. It is well known that now Penang new Chief Minister will be Lim Guan Eng of DAP (Democratic Action Party), Kedah new Menteri Besar will be Azizan from PAS, Selangor new Menteri Besar will be Tan Sri Khalid from Keadilan (People Justice Party) however, Perak new Menteri Besar is yet to be announced. However, much speculations is said to be in the favour of PAS.

Now, back to the post mortem. I wonder what caused the big swing of votes to the opposition. I know, few popular reasons will be about the rising cost of living, more transparency needed in the parliament, more voice of the people should be heard and to have a better check and balance. However, in my own opinion, there are more to these reasons.

First of all, I believe people want to have a better check and balance; but one of my views why the Coalition Government lost is because their tactics of advertisement BACKFIRED!

After all, in the 13 days of campaigning, we only see the advertisement from BN. We see it so much in the newspaper, TV and billboards along the highways. We see it so much until it’s so hard to digest and we, voters, started to think….

Where all these monies come from? Isn’t it from tax payers’ money?

It unfair that the BN is controlling the media! Let’s make a change!

The ‘wind’ that swipe across the voters is just to reduce the majority of the coalition government no matter what is the party you are with! So, together they vote for the oppositions, who are now the government in the 5 states, and the coalition becomes the opposition!

Secondly, the BN has undermined the power of IT and blogs too. With blogs and YouTube, many news can be spread to the people and the BN did not capitalized it!

Who do you think? Drop a comment(s) about the election campaign.
