Malaysia flag: Fly it the right way

50th merdeka celebration is on and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism are planning to celebrate the 50th Merdeka till next year, 3o August, 2008. Technically, this whole period, we are celebrating out nation 50th anniversary. Its not just over a day.

And for years, in and out, we are encourage to fly our national flag. You will see and be amazed by what people willing to do to flag the flag. Some truly are wonderfull show of nationalism. Some, are just simply to show-off. Period.
Throughout the last month, I have seen flags being flown in places I never imagine I can find it. And I have seen cars being design and adorne with flags in ways that are so 'ellaborated'. I am not against nationalism. If you read The Star, you will find readers submitting pics of car adorned with flags, so much so, the driver can see the road. I am sure it will block them from clear vision. You know what I mean, because, you, yourself have seen it too. People even try to have the longest flag, but that is not a Malaysia flag anymore.

I am sure when the flag fly, it will distract the driver and other road user.

this is just a piece of plastic with white and red stripes

Flags, we have the dimension of it. It has 14 stripes, of 7 red and 7 white. It has a star and a cresent, in a blue box. If, you don't see all that, its not a Malaysian flag. All of this have a meaning.

Again, this show Malaysian always kiasu, one of the Malaysian trademark. Then, you have Malaysian who are so, stingy, they can't be bother to have the flag change. It's drap there for so many years that its faded and some are thorn.

I never know Malaysian flag is painted pink

And some who don't even know how a flag should be flown. Or maybe, at least, which should be on top...

you don't fly a nation flag below the state flag.

Yet, we have Malaysian who are so amazing that they come out with wonderful and creative idea to show the world the Malaysian flag. Such as this.

Malaysia flag should be flown with the sense of proudness and patriotic, and flying high with the right purpose and dimension. like these pics below.

Maybe, now the government can start to educate the rakyat about the right way to fly the Malaysia flag.

However, here are the few rules that you can follow.

1.Never fly a flag that is so low that it touches the ground.
2.Change the flag, once its faded or thorn.
3.A national flag should be flown higher than any other flag.
4.Never fly a flag half way up a pole, unless, the nation is mourning for her leaders.
5.Never change the dimension of a flag.
6.Flags are never meant for decorative and clothing. So, don't make it into a dress.
7.Never burn a flag.
9.Flying more flag doesn't show that you are more patriotic. but you are encourage to fly as many as you can, without putting others in danger.
8.Malaysia flag, have 4 colours, red, white, blue and yellow. All signify somethings.

The Malaysian National Flag consists of fourteen red and white stripes (along the fly) of equal width, a union or canton of dark blue, a crescent and a star. The red and white stripes stand for equal status in the federation of the member states and the federal government. The union or canton of dark blue represents the unity of the peoples of Malaysia. The union contains the crescent which is the symbol of Islam, and the star, the 14 points of which symbolise the unity of the 13 states of the federation with the federal government. The yellow of the crescent and the star is the royal colour of the Rulers.

Here is the dimension for the Malaysia flag, in case you don't realise. So, please do fly the right flag, the right way!

Colours are faded so you can easily see the dimension.
